Carew Castle 14 June 2008
A charity event
was held on behalf of the British Heart Foundation on Saturday 14th
June 2008 by members of Scream-Team.
Scream-Team is a
group of paranormal investigators that specialise in providing members of
the public access to alleged haunted locations and ensuring that all
participants involved remain safe during the visits.
The founding
member Scream-Team is Julie Telford of Aylesbury, her father passed away
after suffering a fatal heart attack some 12 years ago, this has made the
charity close to her heart, no pun intended, and whenever the opportunity
arises the team hold charity events with all profits going to BHF.
The event was a
paranormal investigation which consisted of a presentation conducted by Dr
Ciarán O’Keeffe (pictured right) and Steve Parsons (pictured left) followed
by a series of vigils in areas of the ruined castle.
Ciarán is
currently employed as a Research Associate at University of Paris
specialising in Parapsychology and Investigative Psychology. He is also an
associate of the Centre for Critical Incident Research at Liverpool
University. He regularly provides a sceptical voice to various ‘paranormal’
shows (e.g. Living TV’s 'Most Haunted', and 'Jane Goldman Investigates') as
well as numerous documentaries on the subject. A psychologist operating on
science’s fringe, he's been involved in many unusual projects: the
physiological effects of infrasound, ghost investigation of Hampton Court,
an exorcism ‘training day’ and lie detecting for the movie ‘Spy Game’.
Steve is co-founder of ParaScience. Steve has appeared on several
documentaries focused on ghosts. His investigations and knowledge of all
manner of ghostly things have been featured on National Geographic Channel,
Discovery Channel and the BBC. He even surfaced briefly on Living TV’s Most
Haunted. He is currently studying for a PhD at Liverpool Hope University
covering infrasound and haunting experiences.
This event was the
first time that Ciarán and Steve have agreed to deliver this style of public
event and those that attended have said that they thoroughly enjoyed the
evening.
We started with a
talk given by Ciarán and Steve during which they gave an insight into their
professional backgrounds, showed the guests how the “Ghost-hunting”
equipment worked and performed their “How not to investigate the paranormal”
presentation which was both amusing and informative.

Carew Castle is an
eleventh century ruin set overlooking a 23 acre millpond in Pembrokeshire,
Wales. Its history takes it from Norman fortification to an Elizabethan
country house. It is managed by the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park
Authority and was a stunning setting for our event. The grounds and castle
alone would have been worth the 4 hour drive.
No paranormal
activity was witnessed during our overnight stay but the atmosphere of the
ruins certainly made one or two guest uneasy and some were very reluctant to
stay in dark areas alone! In fact they flatly refused!
